Sharon Chuter is a rebel with a cause and on a mission to redefine the rules of inclusivity and diversity. She is Founder of the nonprofit movement, Pull Up For Change, and Chief Executive Officer, Creative Director, and Founder of Uoma Beauty.
As a teen in Nigeria, Ms. Chuter became frustrated that none of the major beauty brands were sold in her country, so she single-handedly brought Revlon to Nigeria. Then, after working at multinational beauty and consumer brands, she found herself yet again frustrated by the industry’s inability to create products for diverse audiences. This started her on the journey to create Uoma Beauty in 2019. Ms. Chuter created a makeup brand through which she could use her voice as an advocate for self-love, authentic self-expression, and her deep beauty industry experience to inspire change and challenge the system. Awarded the 2022 Beauty Award by Fashion Group International and Refinery29’s Beauty Innovator of the Year, Uoma Beauty features the most inclusive shade range in the market.
Ms. Chuter’s reach is beyond beauty. She is also Founder of two wildly successful campaign initiatives under her Pull Up For Change organization, Pull Up or Shut Up and Make It Black. #PullUporShutUp demanded companies share the number of Black employees in corporate roles in an act of transparency and unity. Answering the call, brands such as Kylie Cosmetics, Ulta Beauty, and L’Oréal released demographic data on their employees and executives. The Make It Black campaign has raised approximately $1M to establish the Pull Up For Change Impact Fund, which deploys grants to emerging Black beauty founders.
Ms. Chuter has received numerous honors including Vogue UK’s 25 Most Influential Women of 2022, PopSugar’s Beauty Changemaker of the Year, and WWD’s 50 Most Powerful Women.’
